Reach the summit...Peak

This 2007 novel, Peak, by Roland Smith, is a realistic
fiction book. This books theme is mainly have faith in your friends and
to look deeper in what you want to do with your life.

This story is about a 14 year old kid named Peak who gets busted
for illegally climbing a sky scraper in New York City. Because of this
he is sent off to Tibet where his long-lost dad asks him to accompany
him in climbing the tallest mountain in the whole world, Mt. Everest.
If he reaches the top before he turns 15 he will have been the youngest
ever reach the peak of Everest. Now throw in an unexpected friendship
with another 14 year old, Sun-jo, who also wants to make a summit
attempt and how he helps Peak realize what his true passion is and what
he really wants out of life...  Through a stream of a thrilling events
Peak shares his story of his climb to the summit that changed his life.

I think this book was very memorable because it really shows you that
it is possible to not be selfish and that caring for other people can
actually do a lot of good to yourself. I think that being selfless is
really important in a community because that way you can feel empathy
for one another. Felling empathy for a person can strengthen your
relationship with that someone and if everybody could be selfless and
feel empathy then it would be easier to understand  your community
members. People could get along.
I really like how the book
ended. It kind of left you hanging but it also left you well informed.
At first I was a little disappointed at the ending but then I realized
that if the author had written it any way it wouldn't have been as good
as it was. I figured out after words that the whole story was leading up
to that one key point. I would say that the very end of the story was
the most important part and it the part that readers should remember.
Overall I think this has to be one of the best books I have read in a really long time (if not the
best)! It was greatly written and provides a statement that should most
definitely be heard by all teen readers who are in for a thrilling
adventure to the top of the world.
